Starting October 1, 2024, Amazon will introduce a Digital Services Fee (DSF) to account for digital services taxes (DST) implemented by governments in countries like the UK, Canada, France, Italy, and Spain.
Why Is Amazon Adding This Fee?
Governments in select countries have implemented DSTs—essentially taxes on digital platforms like Amazon. Since these taxes vary depending on buyer and seller locations, Amazon is simplifying things by applying a fixed fee based on:
Your business location, and
The Amazon store where your item is sold.
How the Fee Works
The Digital Services Fee is calculated as a percentage of your referral and FBA fees. Here’s how it breaks down:
Seller Location | Store Where You Sell | Digital Services Fee Rate |
---|---|---|
UK | Any store listed by Amazon | 2% |
France | Any store listed by Amazon | 3% |
Italy, Spain, or Canada | Any store listed by Amazon | 3% |
Any Other Country | UK or France store | 2% |
Any Other Country | Italy, Spain, or Canada store | 2% |
Note: “Any store listed by Amazon” includes major marketplaces like the US, Germany, Mexico, and others.
